Article title

Age features of functional organization of reception and the primary processing of visual information

Abstract (resume)

The article investigates the characteristics of the functional organization of the reception and primary processing of information in the visual system of children and adolescents from different age groups. A study of the visual system indicators, that provide visual perception at close range, has been carried out, 1272 people between the ages of 6 and 17 years has been researched. All probationers were determined positive reserves of accommodation, location of the nearest point of convergence, convergent and divergent fusion reserves. For the processing of these studies have been used descriptive statistics, correlation and factor analysis.

As a result of carried out research it has been determined that average values of researched indexes of visual systems in different age groups of children and teenagers are not for certain different, which is a result of considerable in-group scattering. In the first three age groups (6–13 years) the position of nearest point of clear vision which is characterized by an ability of object joint perception with minimal distance from the eyes, depends on fusion reserves and moves near the eyes during their increase. In older age groups (14–17 years) the position of the nearest point of clear vision defined by reserves of accommodation, which leads to an increase in its approximation to the eyes. This indicates that during child growth process in the visual system occurs separation of focus and adjustment mechanisms provided by accommodation and convergence, and the primary analysis of the information occurring in the central parts of the visual system, involving fusion, as evidenced by the results of cluster analysis and factor.
